Engage Michael Smyth to act on your behalf
Whilst Employed But Not Engaged has been designed to give good advice on New Zealand employment law, the advice is of a general nature and you may have some hesitancy applying to the particular circumstances of your situation. If that’s the case, then it is possible to engage me to act on your behalf to guide you through a dismissal process, represent you if faced with a personal grievance, accompany you to mediation, or appear before the Employment Relations Authority.
How much do you charge?
For advice that takes longer than an hour I normally charge on an hourly rate unless I am able to give you a fixed quote in advance. Where I can’t give you a fixed quote I will aim to provide a realistic estimate of the fees likely to be incurred and update you if that estimate looks likely to change.
There are two hourly rates for business clients. My standard hourly rate is $300 plus GST. However, I do carry out work at $200 plus GST for clients that pay me a small monthly retainer – called Hotline Members. Apart from the reduced fees there are a various other benefits to being a Hotline member. To find out what they are or apply for membership you can go to
http://www.approachablelawyer.com. Otherwise ask about Hotline Membership when you
contact me.
If you are an employee, I offer a reduced hourly rate of $190 plus GST and often charge work on a fixed fee basis. Go to
http://www.approachablelawyer.com to find out more about this.
N.B. I do not act on a "no win no fee" or contingency basis.
Telephone Consulting
If you are simply looking to consult me over something which requires a simple telephone call, then I charge a fixed fee $50 plus GST. That includes reading any documents in preparation for the call (assuming that they are not too lengthy) and the call itself. All you need to do is email any background information and book a time with me. Payment is in advance and can be made by credit card if you prefer. If you are a Hotline member, there is no charge for calls of this nature.
